1. Why register your child's birth

A Kenyan birth record is one of the documents the High Commission asks for in other applications, such as a Kenyan passport or a national ID. If your child also holds Canadian citizenship, see dual citizenship.

2. Registering a birth that happened in Canada

Send everything in duplicate (two sets):

  1. Form BDA 1, filled in. Download Form BDA 1 (PDF)
  2. Certified copies of the bio-data page of both parents' passports, their ID cards and their birth certificates.
  3. A certified or notarized copy of your child's Canadian birth certificate or registration of birth, showing both parents' names.
  4. If the person being registered is 18 or older: proof of their dual citizenship disclosure.
  5. If the parents are legally married: certified copies of the marriage certificate, international or translated into English.
  6. Two certified or notarized copies of both parents' current Kenyan passports, birth certificates and second-generation ID cards. If one parent isn't Kenyan, certified or notarized copies of their foreign passport and birth certificate.
  7. Two certified or notarized copies of both parents' Kenyan passports that were valid when the child was born.

Processing time: 4 months or more.
